In comparison to the other Everest Base Camp treks, the Jiri Trek is relatively easy, and takes you along the trails to Tengboche Monastery and further up to Everest Base Camp. This is considered a long but very scenic trek and offers lovely views of world's highest peaks, including Everest, Lhotse, Thamserku, Ama Dablam and other many snowy peaks. This trek represents the native and original aspect of Sherpa people and their country. Our trek starts with a drive from Kathmandu to Shivalaya via Jiri in the Solu region and from there we trek up to Khumbu region, a settlement of the Sherpas people.  The picturesque villages and various ethnic groups including Tamang, Jirel, Rai, Brahmin, Chettri and of course the Sherpas make the village a spectacular colorful and well decorated orchard with various blooming flowers. The trail is well serviced by tea houses and camps, which make your treks along the countryside comfortable and accommodating.

The trek continues by passing through picturesque ancient places such as Junbesi, Lamjura pass, Namche Bazaar, the main trading village of the Khumbu area, and continuing via Tangboche, Lobuche to Everest Base Camp and up to Kalapattar. We then trek back down to Tengboche monastery, returning to Lukla. We always consider your health. Consider making the most of your trip to the Everest region by combining this with another trip we offer. There are so many options here! Let us help you plan your trip!

Trip Highlights

  • Trek the popular trekking trail in Nepal. The trail is easy going with rolling hills, like the waves in an ocean. The trail is the classic trail used by trekkers and climbers before 1953 making it one of the oldest trekking trails of present day Nepal.
  • The landscape includes the Himalayan panorama, which gradually comes closer and becomes more wonderful as the trek goes higher to Everest Base Camp. The views of deep Dudh Koshi River Valley blend so well with the lush vegetation of Sagarmatha National Park. It's a must-see!
  • We encounter the authentic Sherpa culture in the mountainous villages and recieve and the warm hospitality of the families of local mountaineers.
  • The highland monasteries, the sacred maniwalls engraved with Buddhist prayers, colorful prayer flags portraying spirituality, the memorials, chortens and every aspect that demonstrates Tantric Buddhism of Nygingma Pa Sect.
  • The floral and faunal biodiversity of Sagarmatha National Park.
  • A trek to Kalapattar for the whole view of Everest.
  • The glacial walk over Khumbu Glacier that extends from Khumbu Icefall. The most important highlight of Everest Base Camp itself.
  • Everest Base Camp via Jiri also highlights the cultural opulence of Kathmandu Valley the day before the trek begins as well as the cultural richness in the villages between Jiri and Namche, where only few trekkers have managed to visit.

What to expect on this trek
In this adventurous and exciting trek, you are likely to walk 6-7 hours per day with a light rucksack. High altitude trekking is more physically demanding than walking in lower altitudes.
