Born in Bungkot village of Gorkha, Hom Rana is cheerful mountain guide with more two decades of experience. Most of the guests who trek Nepal with him thinks that he is a "cool" guide. Mr. Magar's engagement in trekking started when he was 15 years old (in year 1995). He went to Annapurna Circuit Trek and his first salary was a modest NRs 75. Hom Magar is passionate about trekking in the Himalayas. He talks fondly of the mountains, the people and the cultural heritage of Nepal.
Hom can play traditional Nepalese musical instruments like Madal and Flute. He is also fond of singing. He has a tiger face tattooed on his left arm and fondly tells his guests about the story behind it. He generally spends his free time with his family- cooking Momo and playing with his child.
He says that Nepal is a "small world with a lot to behold".
Born and raised in Gorkha, Kim Rana came into the tourism sector through his cousin Hom Rana. He started as a porter and fondly remembers his first every trip. He carried 45 kg weight all the way from Jomsom to the Annapurna Base camp as a porter for a group of 14 Hungarian trekkers.
The content faces of the trekkers after long and adventurous trek motivates him to become an even better guide. His first trip as a full time guide was a 12 days Everest Base Camp Trek from Lukla with a group of Australian tourists.
Kim lives with his spouse with whom he has a son and daughter together. He has a metal workshop and works there when he is not trekking. He learned his trade as an apprentice under a friend who was a good metal worker.
Kim does not know how he has a seemingly Korean name. He asked his priest who gave him the name; he even doesn't have an answer. Kim speaks some Korean too. Once, a group of four Koreans started talking to him in Korean language. He knows some Korean too and started conversing to them. They ended up thinking he was a Korean too.
